Woyzeck - SUNY Schenectady College

Franz Woyzeck is a hapless, hopeless soldier, alone and powerless in society, assaulted from all sides by forces he cannot control. Abused and oppressed, both physically and psychologically by commanding officers, doctors and his unfaithful common-law wife, Marie, Woyzeck struggles to hold on to his humanity and his fragile sense of reality. Based on the true story of Johann Christian Woyzeck, a lowly soldier in Leipzig, Germany, Woyzeck, written around 1836 by Georg Buchner, remains one of the most enigmatic and influential works of modern theatre.
